While preferences may differ on how to spell the name of this fried-dough confectionery dessert — the doughnut vs. donut debate is alive and well — we can all come together on the fact that there’s much to love about these delicious treats. Fortunately, there’s one day a year where doughnut lovers can come together to rejoice and even find some great deals: National Doughnut (Donut) Day. Celebrated this year on June 3, this U.S. holiday was created by The Salvation army in 1938 to honor those of their members who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.
